Electrical Issues End Night Early
(March 31st) Going into the 2012 season, we were not sure as to what we would be doing. But what we did know, is that we would be running the 2nd annual Short Track Shootout at KAM Kartway.
Because of the big car count, we would skip over any hot laps and head straight into the first heat. We missed the set-up on the kart but still managed to come away with a second place spot in the night's opening heat.
The second heat found us out to the front early; leading the first six laps. Headed into turn three with just four laps left, another kart dove to the bottom. Tanner could have slammed the door, but decided to not risk equipment damage and save the machine for the A Main.
The A Main line up found the #56K outside pole. In the couple of practice laps before the feature, we knew we had found a pretty promising set-up. After the green flag dropped, we rocketed to the lead on the top side. The pole sitter slid Tanner but he looked to double cross him and pass him off the bottom. Just as Tanner forced the throttle to the floor, the sound of the motor faded and the #56K found its way to the infield. Electrical problems were again the issue and what ended Krysl Racing's night.
As always, Krysl Racing would like to say thanks to all of their sponsors: Tanner Krysl Designs, Smiley's Racing Products, JM Racing, Straight Axle Motorsports, Hoosier Tire Southwest, Snapper Dan, XMR Soap, Haute Properties: Lori Morin, ,Bell, Racing 2 Cure, and Seven Industries.

Night of Non-stop Battling
(October 15th) After the last night of competition was ended early due to a broken frame, Krysl Racing was seeking redemption. The September 17th night was definitely one that needed to be forgotten. The chassis was welded back up and ready to rock.
The dirt was in a better condition than what it usually was! It was really heavy and very tacky! It would make for a fast racing surface for almost the entire night. Although we were falling back in hot laps, the rest of the night would not reflect that performance and would actually be the opposite.
Starting in the 5th spot in the 1st heat, Tanner quickly moved in two spots and found himself running down the runner up spot most of the race. With around three laps remaining, the #56K was reeling in the 2nd spot. He had to drive deep into the corners and then the white flag flew. In turns 1 and 2, Krysl gained significant ground and drove underneath the 2nd place kart going into turn 3. Tanner stuck to the bottom and put on a last corner slide job to finish in the 2nd spot!
Another 5th place start meant more work to be done in the 2nd heat race of the night. Tanner passed 2 karts in the first few laps and then could not get anything else going in the heat. He would settle for a 3rd place spot.
The A Main line-up had the #56K in the 3rd position. The track has slicked off throughout the night and was now back to normal conditions. The dry slick track was tough to pass on. Tanner worked for 18 laps running down the top two competitors. Going into turn 1, Tanner was taken out. This put him back in the 3rd starting spot. After the restart, the leader spun in turn 1 bringing out yet another yellow flag. This would stage a 2 lap shootout for the win with the #56K restarting 2nd. As soon as the green flag dropped, the pedal went to the floor. He was setting up for a last corner pass and that's exactly the situation Tanner put himself in. The white flag waved and Tanner slowed down along the bottom of turns 1 and 2 to get the bottom line on the back stretch. Just when Tanner got alongside the leader, he was cut off bad and was forced to settle for 2nd.
We had to fight and fight some more that night. We did all we could to win but came up just short. We were in the situation we wanted to be in at the end of the night but that's just how racing goes sometimes. The season is winding down but hopefully we will be able to visit victory lane at least once more before season's end.

Solid Run at Nationals
(August 8th-9th) We did all we could, but it still wasn't quite enough. We were one of the top competitors out there and it showed. But, like always, we had just our luck which would put up some obstacles in front of us. It would make Tuesday's A feature race one to remember.
We arrived at English Creek Speedway on Monday evening see the track was in great condition. We were given two separate hot lap sessions which was very advantageous for us. It allowed us to fine tune our setup and get even more dialed in than if we had just had the single session to work with. After the lineups were set, we found ourselves sitting on the outside of the second row of our heat race.
After gunning it a little too early and jumping to the outside a little too far on the initial start, Tanner reset back in line. The official start was better for Krysl and he raced to the front. He used to cushion to run down the 2nd spot which he caught at the very end of lap 2. Just one lap later, after using the high line once again to track down the leader, the #56K was out in front and wouldn't look back! Tanner stayed right around the top and drove off from the field. It was awesome to win that race, reaffirming out beliefs that we could win this event.
The second heat of the night had us lined up on the pole. We found the early lead but we ended up being tracked down because of a bogging engine off the bottom of the corner. We needed to get to the top but because of the battle and constant exchange of slide jobs between us and another competitor, we were too busy with the task at hand. It was slide job city with nearly every corner consisting of a slide job. We just happened to be on the back end of the last one and finished a strong 2nd. That would conclude Monday night's portion of the Outlaw Dirt Kart Nationals.
Based on the points system, Krysl Racing was sitting 2nd entering Tuesday night's races. With our 2nd place points position, we earned the right to be the second competitor to pull a pill to see just exactly where we would line up for the dash. The points leader, our biggest competition on a weekly basis from our home track, Kaley Engstrom, drew the pole position. And then with our luck, we drew the 5th starting spot of the 6 that made the dash. The dash was nothing special. Nobody could pass for position due to the dry and dusty track conditions. Tanner fell back to 6th right away but gained back the 5th spot before the checkers flew meaning a 5th starting spot in the A feature.
Starting off 5th, we dove to the bottom first corner. We got in the slick stuff quick and then had to work our way up. In turn 3 on lap 3, Tanner dove to the bottom and attempted to make a huge slide job for the 4th spot. Krysl was committed and would had him cleared but the other competitor didn't back off the gas at all and ran over Tanner's right rear bringing out the race's first and only caution. On lap 15, the first car of lap traffic held up the 3rd place car allowing Tanner to sneak by on the bottom. But a mistake on the high side in the next corner on the high side cost Tanner the lead. They ran side by side down the back chute and Krysl was cut off, almost causing him to lose control and turn into the fence. He regained control and a few laps later, Krysl and the 3rd spot made a tandem pass around the 2nd place car. Only 2 laps remained and Tanner drove the #56K as hard as he could to get the runner up spot but fell just short. He would cross the line with a podium finish of 3rd place.
It wasn't what we came to do but we made the best of the cards we were dealt. A 3rd place finish against some of the toughest competition in the country sure isn't anything to hang our heads about. "It was the best track I've ever raced on! I freaking love this place! There was a cushion to run up against that was there all night long!" Tanner said. We wished we would have ended in the winner's circle, but we did all we could do. We want to extend a special thanks to Austin Legvold, Devin Simmons, Rex "Bearcub" Schulte, Jason Anderson, Ron and Shari Krysl, Steve Rasmussen, and Rick Doolittle for coming out and helping us. We also want to give a huge thanks to Del Legvold and her future husband Randy for housing us for the entire week!
